Old Birds Go Bush! Merredin to bush camp - 62kms
Another lovely ride - with a few comfort stops for the wife!
We're following the Golden Pipeline along a seemingly flat highway that rises gradually and imperceptibly (we certainly notice the rise) and has long, hardly noticeable down hills, which we appreciate!
The wheat crop is still young and green.
Thin clumps of bush flank both sides of the road.
Convoys of long, and often wide, road trains pass us regularly, carrying equipment for the mining areas. We make sure that we're well off the road when they pass by.
The two roadhouses that we were going to call into - Carrabin at 40kms for lunch and Borradin at 58kms for a motel room - turned out to be deserted.
One was for sale ( we ate our lunch there) and the other was closed.
So we cycled on until we found a thicker area of bush by the roadside. Del marked a track into a flattish glade then we set up camp.
With the highway traffic on one side and the railway line not far away on the other side, I think it's going to be a cold, noisy night!
Well, that camp site looks cosy! Take your point about possible noise though. I saw your picture of the golden pipeline, apparently the longest freshwater pipeline in the world. We’ve got the Elan Valley pipeline into Brum which is a gentle slope all the way, without any pumping. Some feat built without a laser beam. The UK builds a high speed train from London to said capital of the Midlands at a phenomenal cost to save ten minutes, but we’ve got water supply problems that a golden pipeline would go some way to solve and we choose not to construct one, or several. Politics heh? Have a good night if you can.
ReplyDeleteYou're increasing the mileage I see, making good progress! Not far from Southern Cross now I think xxx
