A Hard Day's Slog! Kellerberrin to Merredin - 57kms

We did our longest ride today in blustering winds and with a forcast of rain.
We've been cycling daily without a break since we escaped from Mundaring.
Today it showed - with me anyway.

Awake at 5.00am and away by 7.00am, traffic was light and the road very cyclable.
But I soon ran out of energy battling the wind and had to ask Del for brief, energy restoring breaks. The side wind was especially challenging, and the handlebars needed firm control to prevent the bike from being blown into the traffic lane.
We came across a couple of simple memorials of people who never made it home - both motor cyclists. Grim reminders that the highway and its traffic should always be respected.

This is definitely wheat country with grain silos in every small town. The crops are young and green, and the roadside weeds have been boosted by escaped wheat plants.

These green signposts signify the number of kms to one's destination - in this case 10 kms to Merredin. They appear every 5 kms.
We look out for them eagerly. They help to motivate us and spur us on!

We eventually crawled into Merredin.
It's a quiet, rural town with a small supermarket, a bottleship and a few shops.
We were in need of a rest day and, with rain forcast again, we booked for a couple of nights in one of its run down motels.

Thank you for comments made on our blog.
We really appreciate them.
Unfortunately I've changed my phone number and forgotten my Google password so am unable to sign in and reply at present. But the blog will continue nevertheless.

Tomorrow we sleep in and have an easy day!
