Bushwhacked! Bush Camp to Bush Camp(2) -50kms
Del has calculated that our average daily cycle ( including walking inclines and taking lunch and rest stops) is around 50kms.
Yesterday we got away around 8.15am.
The weather was reasonably good, though heavily laden road trains are on the increase and we battled a head/cross wind all the way.
At 50kms we set up camp, hidden from the road and snuggled down for the night.
The flies swarmed around us as the sun went down! Particularly attracted to the scratches on Del's legs!
Then the rain started!!
We'd hoped to be ahead of the front that had been forcast but, no, we were getting the full effect of it .
It rained all night and by morning we'd decided that the wind and rain would make cycling with trailers too dangerous.
So here we are, huddled in our tent,
mopping up the odd leak occasionally, and reviewing plans for our shorter than expected stay in Coolgardie.
We've tried to change our booking at Coolgardie Caravan Park. No luck. The whole town is booked out for a 4 day Outback Rodeo! At best the manager may be able to find us small room for 1 night.
Just our luck! Would have loved to experience a real Aussie rodeo!
Meanwhile might as well enjoy a lie down while we can! We've got more changes of plans to make when we hit Coolgardie on Thursday.
Yes, best not to risk it on the highways in the wet - though not fun cooped up all day in tiny leaky tent! I just hope that weather passes soon. Try to stay dry if you can! xxx
ReplyDeleteOh! That’s a shame. You may not know we’ve got a drought here (in UK). We had some mizzle (not even drizzle) instead of the promised rain and thunderstorms, so I have to say an all-dayer of rain would be valued - but not when you’ve got a journey to do. Flies (small nippy ones that usually trouble Donkeys) have been an issue for me as well, so Del’s got my sympathy. Truck on!.. (no pun intended…
ReplyDelete05.15 - just outside cleaning out the Donks to the sound of running water - unbelievable! Yes, it was the sheep weeing…
ReplyDeleteHope it all goes well and you don't get too drenched! Yay, dad with his boy scout water collecting skills...epic! xx J&J
